Vacation - Non-Person LP out July 24th!
Vacation are back with a new album out July 24th! It's called Non-Person and you can pre-order it from us now!
Cincinnati, Ohio’s Vacation formed in 2010 as a trio, quickly putting out a slew of tapes, singles, and LPs on various DIY labels, while spreading their infectious pop-inspired punk through shows around their native Midwest and tours throughout the rest of the country. As a pillar of the ever-fertile Cincinnati music scene they also share, or have shared, members with bands including Tweens, Black Planet, and Pretty Pretty.
Over the last two years the band had some lineup changes and expanded into a four-piece, with singer/co-songwriter Jerri Queen stepping out from behind the drum kit to play guitar. The band is rounded out by original member Evan Wolff on bass, Dylan McCartney on drums, and John Hoffman on second guitar. As a quartet, their live sound has gotten larger, their shows more intense, and their recordings more nuanced and eclectic.
Their new LP Non-Person features a diverse approach to the band’s signature noise-laden melodies, sing-along choruses, and punked-out pop riffs. The album is as indebted to the Ramones as it is to Jesus and Mary Chain, as melodic as ‘70s power pop and as fierce as ‘80s hardcore.
From the opening frenetic burst of “Heat” to the distortion heavy “Yin Yang Smile,” and from the new wave vibe of “The Effort” to the fuzzed out “What I Found,” the record maintains cohesion without ever dragging. Auxiliary organ, percussion, and acoustic guitars fill in any gaps that haven’t already been taken up by the guitar feedback that has become integral to the band’s sound. The lyrics touch upon themes such as self-decay (“Like Snow”), apathy (“All I think About (Myself)”), and escape (“I Wish I Could Be Someone Else”).
With the new record on its way, Vacation will be heading out on tour with Don Giovanni Records label mates, Screaming Females, taking them from New Orleans to Portland, San Francisco to Vancouver, and just about everywhere else in between. The over-a-month long tour starts July 27th in Cleveland and ends on August 29th in Philadelphia. Not to be missed!

Aye Nako - The Blackest Eye out July 10th!
We will be working with one of our favorite bands, Aye Nako, to release their next record, a 12" called The Blackest Eye! More info here:
Aye Nako is a 4-piece collaboration made up of Mars Dixon, Angie Boylan, Jade Payne, and Joe McCann dedicated to untangling histories of abuse, race, trauma, family, love, gender, and a misrepresentation of identity. Also a dissonant and melodic punk band carving out a space to co-exist in the fold between music, art, and politics while trying not to be priced out of New York City. Formed in Brooklyn, NY during the summer of 2010,Aye Nako has performed at basements, clubs, museums, and schools all over the country. As an update to the sound heard on Unleash Yourself, their first, self-released album, they’ve self recorded a new EP titled “The Blackest Eye”.
Named after Toni Morrison’s 1st novel, "The Bluest Eye”, The album lyrically takes on the similar themes of cultural conceptions of beauty and worth and the devastating long term effects it can have on those who do not fit those conceptions. The songs narrate through singer/songwriter Mars's experiences with physical abuse, family, anti-blackness and racial self-acceptance while growing up in the southern united states. Musically it all comes together through dual guitar leads, precise drums, fuzzed out bass, and an underlying appreciation for the darker side of pop sensibility.

Izzy True - Troll EP out June 30th!
We're super excited to announce the debut from Trumansburg, NY's Izzy True: the Troll EP! Maybe you saw Izzy True at our Austin Imposition showcase or on tour with Modern Hut earlier this year or maybe you recognize Isabel's voice and guitar work from her previous band The Realbads.
Isabel Reidy is both a songwriter and a comic artist. The songs on this tape immerse you into a world of characters and ideas she has created in her comics and extended through her music, not unlike one of her influences Michael Hurley. The tape version of this is a professionally printed cassette designed by Isabel and limited to 200 copies.
